Pack with purpose: My top 5 tips on travel packing
The quality of your travel packing can make or break your trip so don’t take it for granted. It could be a hassle and a bit stressful for some, but if you invest enough time and effort, you are already a step away from an epic trip.
1. Focus and plan. Give yourself ample space and time to plan your pack. Make a checklist, whether on your phone or notebook, at least hours or better yet, the day before so you can edit and review most of the items.
2. Make use of packing containers. Get yourself a sturdy set of packing containers to organise your items such as outdoor clothes, undies, and lounge wear.
3. Research the weather and plan your itinerary. The weather at your destination is a big factor for planning your wardrobe. There is nothing worse than lugging the wrong set of clothes thousands of miles away to find that you need to purchase a new set on the spot.
4. Consider packing a staple stash. It should contain useful items such as masking tape, scissors, bubble wrap, rubber slippers, extra duffle bag, swim googles and whatever you want to include. It should be light, compact and easily transferrable from bag to bag. But most of all, the items are all well-curated to your needs and they are all very useful.
5. Pack light. It’s hard and it’s not for everyone, but it saves a lot of effort and trouble dragging big bags across airports, trains, buses, cabs and Uber/Grab cars. There are always opportunities to wash clothes in a lot of destinations, or just repeat them, why not 🙂
